WHAT’S YOUR HAIR TYPE: PRESCRIBE YOURSELF
31st Mar 2020
Hair comes in all shapes and sizes. Thin, thick, flat, frizzy, oily, dry – the possibilities are endless and can be affected by a number of factors including age, environment, styling and even genetics.
It can be really tricky to pinpoint your hair type as more often than not your locks will fall into more than one category. It’s really common for people to ‘misdiagnose’ their hair and end up using the wrong products, one size does not fit all!
With differing porosity and density of the hair follicle, a product designed for dry coarse hair will work really differently on fine, lighter hair. That’s why it’s so important to assess your hair type and prescribe the products that work for you.
What to check out:
- Texture. Take a look at one single hair. Is it thick and course, or fine and lighter? Compare with a friend if you’re not sure. Thick hair is naturally stronger than thin hair and so will need a less intensive shampoo and conditioner.
- Porosity. This is measured by the hair’s ability to absorb moisture and other products. Very porous hair is generally damaged and so absorbs chemicals and moisture quickly and needs to be carefully treated to avoid breakages, whereas non-porous hair will struggle to take a perm or colour. To figure out how porous your hair is, simply feel it – if it feels dry and rough, you’ve got porous hair.
- Oil Balance. If you’ve got naturally oily hair, you’ll notice your hair getting lank and slick shortly after washing. This is generally caused by overactive sebaceous glands, which provide a natural lubricant for the scalp.
The De Lorenzo Prescriptive Solutions Range was created to tailor to your hair type and make it easier to meet the specific needs of your hair. Our Prescription:
