Streetlights Project: Something for Nothing
21st Dec 2021
Lisa Polini is an award winning hairdresser, winning the AHFA WA/NT Hairdresser of the Year 2018 and 2020 Best Women’s Commercial Collection at the International Hairdressing Awards in Madrid. With 26 years in the industry, she has worked tirelessly perfecting her craft and bringing her creative visions to life for many photoshoot opportunities, competitions and as an educational Featured Artist.
Lisa is a valued De Lorenzo Educator and her striking edgy style, oozes cool in all the work she does. For Lisa though, it’s not just about the glory of accolades, Lisa loves giving back to her community and helping others less fortunate. She has been involved with international and local homeless projects within the industry, her local women’s refuge center and soup kitchen. Participating in everything from hair cutting, cooking, food deliveries and collection of goods.
This Christmas she joins the StreetLights project in WA with her colleague Lisa Henry, our dedicated Account Manager for De Lorenzo in WA.
Today there are nearly 10,000 homeless people in WA which is how The Streetlights Project came about. The first successful event was held at Tisch Cafe and Bistro in Perth in 2016. Volunteers give their time and commitment to people experiencing homelessness.
This will be Lisa’s second year volunteering for this beautiful cause and offering haircuts to those in need of not just the grooming and feeling refreshed but in need of love, human touch and kindness this Christmas.
We all know how wonderful it feels to visit the hairdresser and walk out feeling like a renewed person and so we imagine how wonderful this feels for those in the community who cannot afford this kind of luxury. The Streetlights Project brings the forgotten dreams back to people who cannot afford a meal each day, and instead they can enjoy a Christmas candle lit dinner, connection, community, haircuts and gifts to make sure everyone feels special at Christmas and those who are most vulnerable are not forgotten.
Lisa Polini said of her past experience with StreetLights “We loved it. We met so many interesting characters with amazing life stories and we even gave out some hugs after haircuts too. We plan on doing their future projects with them as our ‘giving back to the community’ approach".
