PREPARE YOUR HAIR & SCALP FOR THE SEASON CHANGE
Posted by De Lorenzo Education Team on 31st Oct 2024
As the seasons change, naturally our lifestyle changes. But…… the one thing we don’t tend to change is our hair care regime!
Have you ever heard the term “My hair and scalp gets too used to a particular product so it doesn’t work as effectively anymore?”
This is simply untrue, what’s actually happening is, there are changes to the environment around you that are having an effect on your hair for example in winter your scalp and skin tends to dry out easily and as the days become shorter, we physically absorb less vitamin D than usual due to spending less time in the sun. Whereas in summer we absorb greater amounts of vitamin D from more UV exposure from the sun, and we may actually start to feel slightly oilier.
So, let’s talk about the current season and things we can change in our regime to better prepare our hair and scalp, so we don’t experience those negative effects.
Warmer seasons may bring a little more hair fall than usual due to a natural shedding, but don’t be alarmed this is a completely natural process and the hair is being replaced, think of this type of shedding like the scalp is doing a “spring cleanout” as such. Make sure you brush your hair gently before shampooing as this will help remove the loose hairs, so you don’t have to battle with them later when they are clogging your shower drain.
Choose a more lightweight shampoo, conditioner and leave in treatment, this way you will feel less inclined to have to shampoo your hair too frequently. Our winter regime products are designed to provide more nourishment to combat the dry scalp and hair feel, so we really do need to look at changing things up as per the season. Another great idea is to look for products that have higher amounts of antioxidants and natural UV protection. What these ingredients do for hair and scalp is they provide the ‘Anti-Ageing’ and ‘Protecting’ qualities so that you know, every single time you utilize these products you are reversing the signs of ageing and damage.
The best examples of these wonderful ingredients I can give you would be within the Prescriptive Solutions range. Both the Balance and Control ranges have two different conditioners so that you can alternate which conditioner is best for you at any particular time, plus the two leave in Moisture RepairTreatments you also have a choice of how much weight and nourishment you would prefer to add to your hair.
The added bonus of the Prescriptive Solutions range is that it will treat both hair and scalp concerns in one. The purple colour coded Balance range means it will treat dry/ tight/ stressed scalp problem and dry hair conditions particularly anyone with chemically treated hair types. Whereas the green colour coded Control range will reduce sebum production for oily scalps and is perfect for people that have very fine hair that is easily weighed down by our natural oil.
Please see the diagram below to show how simple it can be to change up your hair/scalp care routine to better suit the season you are currently experiencing without the stress of needing a whole new range that you don’t know if it will work for you or not.
